Butte, Nebraska, mourns the loss of a bright, young soul, Adam James Bernt, passed away on March 22, 2024.  Adam was born in O'Neill, Nebraska on July 28, 2009, to Kylie (Hansen) and James "Jim" Bernt, and welcomed home by his big sister, Elizabeth.

Adam's journey, though brief, was marked by an unwavering spirit of kindness and a passion for life.  He attended Boyd County High School, where he was a freshman, and was expected to graduate in 2027 with a group of classmates that he relished entertaining with his sense of humor, charm, wild antics, brilliant ideas, kind heart, and his ability to stop class everyday at 11:11 for a Holy Minute.

From a young age, Adam showed a deep love for talking, entertaining, and cars, which led him to a passion for vehicles, especially his dad's 1968 mustang and 1993 Ford pickup.  His compassion for animals was also very evident as he loved raising goats, chickens and his dog.  Adam spent many hours caring for goats with his grandfather, Duane Hansen at the Russ and Sue Lechtenberg farm.  He even rescued a kitten, Nala, who was close to his heart, that he snuck home, without permission, and surprised the family with,  Adam also spent many hours at the Bernt Welding shop with his dad, grandpa Scott, cousin Cody, and his uncle Brad where he was learning how to weld and was getting very good at running the payloader at the gravel pit.

Adam's many hobbies reflected his vibrant personality.  At Boyd County School, Adam participated in many activities including basketball, cross country, golf, FFA, FBLA, band and 4-H.  He was proud of qualifying for National FBLA two years in a row, which allowed him to travel to Chicago and Atlanta.  Adam really enjoyed being an FFA member and was excited to have been able to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis with some of his best buds this past fall.  He enjoyed many hobbies outside of school including hunting, fishing, riding or working on his four-wheeler, fixing up his pickup he had purchased from his dad and trying to find numerous opportunities to be able to drive or ride in the mustang.  Most of all, Adam especially loved hanging out with his many friends and family, usually with some music, which he also loved, and enjoyed surprising everyone with his very peculiar playlists.

Known for his kind heart, quick wit, and infectious smile, Adam was a beacon of light in the lives of those he touched.  He seemed to always have a smile and a joke for everyone.  Adam loved reminding people to never take life too seriously.  To know Adam was to be loved by Adam, he never knew a stranger and always had a knack for finding a way to lighten the mood.

Adam is survived by his parents, James and Kylie Bernt; sister, Elizabeth; grandparents, Duane Hansen, Scott and Donna Bernt, all of Butte, NE; Aunts and Uncles, Gary (Nia Barakat) Hansen of Lincoln, NE, Kaci and Jeff Larsen of Vermillion, SD, Katie Hansen of Butte, NE, and Julie and James Williams of Las Vegas, NV; cousins, Kole, Jase, and Knox Larsen; Great Aunts, Uncles, family, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his great grandparents, K.E. and Betty Barritt, Don and Vita Marie Bernt, Marvin and Irene Hansen, John Vere and Betty Kaplan.

Adam's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.  His life thought short, was a testament to the impact one individual can have on their community and the world.  Rest in peace, dear Adam.  Your Memory will forever be a source of inspiration and joy to all who knew you.
