A Funeral Mass for Adelene V. Laetsch, age 83 of Atkinson, NE formerly of Amelia, NE, will be 10:00 AM Friday, February 25, 2022, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Atkinson, NE. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Atkinson. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with a Parish Rosary at 7 PM. Adelene passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Parkside Manor in Stuart, NE. Arrangements are under the direction of Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.
Adelene Victoria Sok was born December 13, 1938, in Ord, NE to John and Anna Sok. Back in the day, Adelene was raised on a farm south of Ord, NE. The family moved years later to Tekamah, NE. After graduating high school, she landed a job in Omaha with a phone company as an operator.
Adelene met her future husband, Arthur Laetsch Jr., while he was working in West Point, NE. Art and Adelene were married in Tekamah, NE on May 14, 1960. To this union, eight children were born: Tony, John, Lori, Tom, Jeff, Maggie, Julie, and Sally. Adelene was the Jill of all trades including gardening, canning, sewing, cooking, strong faith, and raising livestock. Keeping her children on the right path of life was very stressful at times. Adelene attended therapy when possible... which consisted of the Blazing 7's and the Lucky Ducks. Adelene was able to cash out on most therapy sessions due to the generosity of the 7's and the ducks. Art, to our great surprise, was always very supportive of these therapy sessions.
Adelene was blessed with 26 grandchildren that she cherished. She spoiled them with countless batches of cookies, rolls, runzas, and her famous play - dough. Faith, being at the top of her list, was one of the many morals and values that she instilled in them.
Adelene is survived by her eight children; Tony (Laurie) Laetsch of Salem, SD, John (Ree) Laetsch of Amelia, NE, Lori (Brad) Ehresmann of Rapid City, SD, Tom (Michelle) Laetsch of Seward, NE, Jeff (Cindy) Laetsch of Atkinson, NE, Maggie (Scott) Axtell of Harrisburg, SD, Julie (Todd) Seger of Atkinson, NE, Sally (Darrell) Miksch of Atkinson, NE; 26 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Marie Gill of Tekamah, NE; sister in law, Pat Sok of Fremont, NE; brother in law, John (Gert) Laetsch of Houston, TX; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Adelene was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna (Augustyn) Sok; husband, Arthur Laetsch, Jr.; sisters, Lillian (Alvin) Vetick, Josephine (Leon) Marquardt, and Eva (Bernard) Spenner; brothers, Hank (Darlene) Sok and Steve Sok; and brother-in-law, Robert Gill.
