Obituary

Memorial Services for Bill Halstead, age 78, of Lynch will be at 11 am on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Lynch Community Hall in Lynch.  Jeff Hart will officiate.  Memorial Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the hall.  Bill passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in Tempe, Arizona.  He leaves behind a legacy defined by his devotion to his family, his pride in his Nebraska roots, and a lifetime of hard work.  Memorials may be directed to his family for future designation.  Arrangements are entrusted to Biglin's Mortuary in Spencer.

William Harold Halstead was born on July 28, 1947, in Lynch, Nebraska, to Harold and Opal (Mellor) Halstead.  A proud 1965 graduate of Lynch High School, Bill answered the call to serve his country shortly after graduation.  He served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1969.

After his military service, Bill moved to Denver, Colorado, to continue his education.  It was there he met Joyce Duncan.  The two married and were blessed with four children: Teri, Greg, Kristi, and Cody.

The family spent their early years in Lynch before relocating to Bloomfield, New Mexico.  For over 23 years, Bill worked as an Area Operator for Mid America Pipeline (MAPCO).  Even when he wasn't on the clock, Bill's hands were never still.  He renovated two of his family's homes and entirely built a third in Bloomfield, eventually completing his "dream shop" where he spent countless hours on various projects.  Life in Bloomfield also brought a new addition to their family with another child, Rachel.

Bill and Joyce later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  During his time in Nevada, Bill worked for the City of Henderson and the Clark County School District before retiring in 2014.

Retirement brought Bill back to his roots in Lynch, Nebraska.  True to form, he undertook one final project: the renovation of his family home.  In his later years, Bill found great joy in reconnecting with old friends, spending time with family, playing cards, and competing in several bowling leagues.  He was also an active member of the veteran's community in Lynch and O'Neill, Nebraska.

In his final months, he relocated to Tempe, AZ to once again be closer to his family while receiving medical care.  He was brave, resilient, and showed remarkable strength throughout his continued battle with cancer, showing the same perseverance that defined his life.

Bill is survived by his former wife, Joyce Halstead; their children, Theresa (Ralph) Thomas of Las Vegas, NV, Greg (Michelle) Halstead of Las Vegas, NV, Kristi (Jasent) Montano of Gilbert, AZ, Rachel (Charlie) Scaperotto of Honolulu, HI; grandchildren, Cody (Christine) Montano, Ashley Halstead, Jake Thomas, Jarryd Halstead, Caden Thomas, Micah Montano, Jayden Montano, Regan Thomas, Brody Scaperotto, Kale Scaperotto, Jase Scaperotto, Nico Scaperotto; great-grandchildren Adrian Montano, Isabella Montano, Aurora Montano, Tristana Montano;  brother-in-law, Rex Carson of Lynch, NE; sister-in-law, Janice Halstead of Lynch, NE; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Cody Halstead; his parents, Harold and Opal Halstead; brother, Larry Halstead; sister, Doris Carson; sister Helen, Lueken; sister, Alice Marx; brother-in-law, Kim Lueken; brother-in-law, Michael Marx.

Bill will forever be remembered for his dedication to his community and the deep love he held for his family.
