Bergman
Aug 27, 1942 — Jul 13, 2026
Newton
Bob Bergman, 83, of North Newton, Kansas, and formerly from O'Neill, was welcomed into his heavenly home by Jesus, his Savior, on July 13, 2026. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the First Christian Church in O'Neill with Pastor Roger Sloan officiating. Burial will follow in the O'Neill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Friday, July 17, 2026 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with a 7 pm Prayer Service. Bob passed away peacefully on Monday, July 13, 2026, at his home in North Newton, Kansas, following a year-long battle with cancer, during which he was continually surrounded by the love, support, and care of his family. Memorials may be directed to his family for future designation. Arrangements are entrusted to Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.
Robert "Bob" Larry Bergman was born to Fredo and Amber (Larison) Bergman on August 27, 1942, in Superior, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm near Nelson, Nebraska, and attended rural Fairview School Dist. 48 before graduating from Nelson High School.
Bob met Vicki Cline at an "hour dance" while both were attending the University of Nebraska– Lincoln. The farm boy married the UNL homecoming queen on June 11, 1967. Bob's positions with appraisal firms took the newlyweds to Iowa Falls, Iowa, then O'Neill and Norfolk then back to O'Neill, Nebraska.
For over 40 years, Bob and his family lived in O'Neill, where he was a servant-leader in his church and community. Bob was repeatedly elected as Holt County Assessor, and for 30 years was the sole proprietor of O'Neill Abstract Company. He was a member and officer in the O'Neill Lions Club and an elder at O'Neill First Christian Church, where he also served as treasurer and teacher for multiple Sunday School classes.
Following a house fire in 2010, Bob and Vicki retired and moved to North Newton, Kansas, to be closer to their children and grandkids. Throughout his retirement, Bob enjoyed reading, serving with Newton Christian Church, doing yardwork and fix-it projects, cheering for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, making memories with his family, and adding to his extensive dad joke collection. He was a man of few words, but he had wisdom, humor, and some good one-liners.
Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Vicki Bergman of North Newton, Kansas; their children, Greg (Kate) Bergman of Peabody, Kansas, Cathlina Bergman of Newton, Kansas, and Danny (Laura) Bergman of Newton, Kansas; ten grandchildren; and his sister, Sharon Meyer of Nelson, Nebraska, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. Bob and Vicki were also the parents of a stillborn infant.
Bob has been reunited in heaven with his parents, Fredo and Amber Bergman; his in-laws, Bill and Frida Cline; brother-in-law, Gordon Meyer; and numerous Christian brothers and sisters, joining the "great cloud of witnesses" spoken of in Hebrews 12.
