Robert Martin McKay was born on October 8, 1947 in Spalding, Nebraska to Carrol and Irene (Glaser) McKay.  His family later moved to O'Neill, and Bob attended school at St. Mary's High School.  He graduated with the class of 1966.  Bob attended Park's Business College in Denver and received his business certificate before returning back to Nebraska and attending Kearney State College.

Rodeo was Bob's passion for all of his life.  In 1970, Bob was the NSRA Reserve Champion in Bull Riding.  Bob was blessed with three sons, Steve, Greg, and Matt.  He worked for NPPD in Columbus for a time, then sold MoorMan's Feed, eventually becoming a District Manager.  He was a partner in C&M Rodeo Company for three years, before going out on his own in 1978.  Bob started McKay Rodeo Company.  His company provided rough stock to over 20 rodeos a year all across the Midwest.  Some of his bulls were even on the PBR Pro Tour in the early 2000's.  During his rodeo career, he proudly wore out at least 6 pickups driving from North Dakota to Texas and west to Las Vegas.  He was named Rough Stock Contractor of the Year at least ten times along with winning countless Bareback Horse, Saddle Bronc Horse, and Bucking Bull of the Years awards in multiple associations.  Bob has owned over 2000 bucking bulls and probably as many bucking horses.

Bob was a member of MSRA, NSRA, and IRA.

Bob enjoyed machinery auctions, bucking stock auctions, raising colts, and raising bucking horses.  He also enjoyed going to rodeos, checking pastures, watching his grandchildren's sporting events, and his daily McDonald's runs.

Bob's boys will always remember him for his saying "Common Boys, Let's GO".

Bob is survived by his three sons, Steve (Tara) McKay of Ericson, NE, Greg (Amy) McKay of Spalding, NE, Matt (Michelle) McKay of O'Neill, NE; nine grandchildren, Bailey (Alex) Petersen, Jace (Sydney) McKay, Tee (Shannon Kennicutt) McKay, Drue McKay, Bronc (Lindsey) McKay, Briana (Reed) Murray, Cooper McKay, Colby McKay, Cash McKay; six great grandsons; his siblings, Pat (Jim) Gokie of O'Neill, NE, Bill (Bobbi) McKay of North Platte, NE, Peg Davis of Norfolk, NE; many nieces, nephews, and rodeo friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
