David John Zimmer was born on June 21, 1943 to Rev. Peter John and Dorothy (Moss) Zimmer in Iberia, Missouri.   He graduated in 1961 from Eldon High School in Eldon, MO.  Following graduation from high school he attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois.  He then went on to North Park College and obtained a Bachelor's of Science in Accounting and earned a J.D. law degree from the Thomas Cooley Law School at Western Michigan University in Lansing, Michigan.

While still a student at the Moody Bible Institute, David's roommate, Larry Swanson, invited David to his home in Chambers for the Easter holiday.  It was there that he met Elinore Porter on a rather exciting blind date. They were married one year later on June 29, 1963 in Chambers, Nebraska.  To this union three children were born.

Elinore and David made their home in Chicago where David worked for three years for the Federal Reserve. He then took a job at Bank of Lansing as the VP of Trust Department where he worked for 15 years. From there he went on to work at the Commerce Bank in Peoria, IL as the Senior VP of Trusts and Investments and then to Central Bank in Jefferson City, MO in the Trust Department.  David retired in 2009 and moved back to Chambers, Nebraska.

David was a member of various public and church organizations, Gideons, Rotary, and the South Side Mission.  He taught Sunday School and was a deacon at many of the churches he attended.  His hobbies were golf, golf and more golf!

He was a great student of the Bible and copied the Bible twice by hand.  He made it a routine to start every car trip he took by praying out loud before driving regardless of who was with him in the car, be it family, friends, work associates or strangers., as soon as he got into the car.

David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elinore Zimmer of Chambers; three children, David Zimmer Jr and wife, Audra, of Willow Springs, North Carolina, Frances Mock and husband, Russell, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Tanya Fennell and husband, Rev. Matthew, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren, Caleb Zimmer, Zack Zimmer, Austin Mock, Taylor Mock, Spencer Mock, Landon Mock, Ora Fennell, Ian (Christina) Fennell, Aaron Fennell, Ethan Fennell, Elliot Fennell; five siblings, Paul (Roberta) Zimmer of Decatur, Illinois, Lillian Wheeler of California, Missouri, Rebecca (Charles) Ash of Tuscumbia, Missouri, Debbie (Ron) Traub of Stoney Hill, Missouri, Steve (Alice) Zimmer of Strafford, Missouri; many nieces and nephews.
