Jim was born in Norfolk, Nebraska on July 24, 1953 to Edgar and Alice Boyle.  Jim grew up in the Page area.  The family later moved to O'Neill.  Jim attended St. Mary's School and graduated with the Class of '72.  After graduation, Jim enlisted in the United States Army on the Buddy Program and served three years where he was stationed in Hawaii.  Jim was honorably discharged and returned to O'Neill where he was a truck driver driving team with his dad.  Jim then purchased his own trucks and hauled livestock.  In 1982, Jim went to work for the United States Postal Service so that he could spend more time at home with his children.  He worked for the USPS for 18 years before he took an early out retirement. He then returned to his first love of truck driving until his health forced his retirement in 2016.

In August, 1977, Jim married Mary Janzing.   To this union were born four children:  Steven (Johanna) of O'Neill, Kimberly (David) Davenport of Gretna, Patrick (Stephanie) of Aurora, and Megan (Jessie) Poessnecker of Atkinson.  His grandchildren were the light of his life: Madison and Logan Davenport, Ethan Boyle, Avah Boyle and his newest grandchild "Baby P" that he was to meet in September.

Jim is survived by his wife, children and their families. His mother, Alice Boyle, sister Shirley Chmiel and children, and brother Timothy (Angie) Boyle and children of O'Neill, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.   Jim was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Boyle Sr., maternal grandparents Ralph and Anna Dunkelberger and paternal grandparents Jim and Gladys Boyle and his mother and father-in-law John and Lottie Janzing.

Jim loved Husker football, fishing, playing pitch, and discussing politics. He was proud of his service to his country, his job with the postal service and the many years he spent trucking. He had friends far and wide and never met someone he couldn't talk to. He was a man of stories, antidotes, and knowledge. Most of all he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed.  Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.
