Esther Georgia Dick was born on December 25, 1920 near O'Neill, Nebraska to John and Martha (Ernst) Dick. She lived with her parents on the family farm northwest of O'Neill that her grandfather had homesteaded on. It was known as the Fairview Farm. She attended country school through the eighth grade. Esther developed chronic arthritis as a young woman and spent much of her time riding the bus or the train to Rochester, MN for treatments. Esther worked at the Lee Store, located in O'Neill, for a couple years.
Much of Esther's adult life was spent marching as a Christian Soldier for the Lord. She was involved with Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and as a teacher and camp counselor for Camp Witness near Long Pine. Esther was active in the local Center Union Sunday School, and traveled often to Wyoming to help teach camps that her brother, Delbert, ran for the American Sunday School Union. Many professions of faith were made under her watch. On October 1st, 2006, she said "So Long" to the farm where so many family memories had been made and moved into the North Park Homes in O'Neill.
She was member of the Center Union Church and later attended the Wesleyan Church in O'Neill.
Esther enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was gardening, tending her flowers, mowing grass, feeding livestock, fishing, and occasionally hunting. She spent many hours quilting, embroidering, and doing other needle work. She was most often the photographer for the family gatherings.
Esther is survived by her brother, Delbert (Dorothy) Dick of Casper, Wyoming; 11 nieces and nephews, Karen Tate of Columbus, Shelton (Mary) Hornback of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Gwen (Norman) Gall of Fremont, David (Pam) of Douglas, Wyoming, Dean (Teresa) Dick of Casper, Wyoming, Dixie (Victor) Masey of Orting, Washington, Carmen (Eric) Troxel of Ogallala, Dallas (Beth) Dick of Omaha, Sherwin (Dee) Dick of Inman, Dawn (Brian) Knapp of Madison, Charlotte Dick of Columbus, and sister-in-law, Lillian Dick of O'Neill.
