Howard Arthur Quandt was born to Arthur and Edna (Meyer) Quandt on September 4, 1940, at their home in Grand Island, Nebraska.  He attended grade school at District 56, seventh and eighth grade at Trinity Lutheran School in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1958.  At the age of 21 he joined the United States Army and did most of his tour in Germany.  He was honorably discharged in 1964. Shortly after his military service in 1964 he met JoAnn Glover, and they were married July 3, 1965.  To that union they had two daughters and one stillborn son all born in Indiana.

As a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, he taught Sunday School until they moved to Indiana when he was hired by Chief Industries to take a position to run the grain bin building plant in Rensselaer, Indiana.  He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran church and was Sunday School Superintendent

He was a charter member of the Jaycee organization that started in Rensselaer, Indiana.  He held many offices, chaired many events, received many awards, and even helped organize a Jaycee group in the Michigan State Prison.

In July 1977 the family moved back to Nebraska when he went to work for the Thompson Candy Company in O'Neill, Nebraska.  He managed the warehouse and was a salesman.  He also was a manager and cook for the American Legion Club.

After that, he went to the Biba Construction Company until the company was dissolved.  He worked for other road construction companies and worked at Exeter Boring and Tunneling until he retired…but if you knew Howard you know he couldn't sit still, so he went to work for Ag Services in Emmet Nebraska during the spring hauling fertilizer.

In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, making birdhouses, banks, barns, and other novelty items.  Howard was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting pheasants with his friends from Indiana, especially Phil for 55 years.  He also enjoyed his time on the ice doing a little fishing.  He loved feeding the neighborhood birds and squirrels and enjoyed watching them.  He had a patio garden every season and was proud of his produce.  He also enjoyed playing dominos and cards, especially cribbage with his daughter Annette and other family members.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, two daughters; Nikki (Dan Schneider) of Inman, NE, Annette (Steve Kebr) of Tinley Park, Illinois, five grandchildren; Dustin (Riley) Ross of O'Neill, Ne, Stephanie (Dillon) Morris of Council Bluffs, IA, Veronica (Joey) Meins of Sioux Falls, SD, Evelyn and Katie Kebr of Tinley Park, IL, six great grandchildren; Hudson, Jackson, Alayla, Jeremiah, Gianna, and Cora; brother Walter (Marilyn) of Mission Viejo, CA; sister, Jacquelyn (Larry) Pollock of Grand Island, NE; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
