Memorial Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Biglin's. James passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016, at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill. Memorials may be made to the O'Neill Volunteer Fire Department.
James was born on September 25, 1938, in Sioux City, IA to Earl and Emily (Bild) Rodman. He moved to O'Neill with his family as a small boy and graduated from O'Neill High School in 1956. Jim joined the Navy in August of 1956, and served on the USS Calcaterra, stationed in New Port, RI. While he was in the service, he became friends with John Sullivan, who took him home on leave where he met Carolyn Carter. They were married shortly after on October 10, 1959, in Merrimack, NH. To this union, 3 daughters were born: Chris, Sue and Angie.
The couple moved to O'Neill after they married and Jim worked for his father at American Gear. In 1972, he started his own company right beside his father's store and he worked there his entire life.
Jim enjoyed spending many hours at the O'Neill Fire Department, ensuring that everything was always in working order and clean. He was also an avid member of the Street Toys Unlimited Car Club. He enjoyed restoring cars from rusted piles of metal into some of his most prized possessions. His cars were recognized for their beauty and craftsmanship as he returned home from many cars shows with first place trophies. Another of Jim's hobbies included building clocks. His clocks ranged from clocks made of old car parts to clocks made of paper. Jim never really stopped working and tinkering, whether it be a job for a friend or one of his endless projects.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol, of O'Neill, 3 daughters, Chris Bosn and husband Tony of O'Neill, Sue Arment and husband Ken of Valley, NE, Angie Rodman of Stanton, NE, 9 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren, a sister, Betty Brandon of Miami, FL and several nieces and nephews.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother-in-law, David Brandon.
