A Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life for Joan Swanson, age 80, of Stuart and formerly of O'Neill will be at 10:30 am Saturday, March 25, 2017 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill with burial in the O'Neill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday, March 24, 2017 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with a 7 pm Rosary.

Joan passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Parkside Manor in Stuart.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Joan Kay Palmer was born to Jonas and Adaline (Johnson) Palmer on November 11, 1936 in Atkinson, NE. She attended country school and then Saint Joseph's Catholic High School in Atkinson where she graduated in 1955.

Joan was united in marriage to Gene Ziska on July 1, 1957, in Lewiston, ID. To this union three children were born, Linda, Doug, and Kevin.  On January 16, 1982 Joan married to Larry Swanson.

Joan worked at Bomgaar's in the clothing department for 29 years. She loved working with the people and visiting with customers and took great pride in her customer service skills! In addition to working at the store, Joan and her husband Larry also had a lawn care service in O'Neill.

In her free time, she enjoyed antiquing, camping, gardening, going to garage sales, and auctions.

Joan is survived by her three children; one daughter, Linda (Ziska) Schneider and husband Darin of O'Neill, son Doug Ziska and wife Nicole of Omaha, son Kevin Ziska and wife Kim of Omaha, six grandchildren; Kiel Neumann and wife Jayme, of Charlottesville, VA, Ryan Schneider, of Leigh, NE,  Marcus Schneider, Lincoln, NE,  Joseph Ziska, Connor Ziska, and Addison Ziska; all of Omaha, and one great granddaughter, Jada Neumann, two step-children; Mitch Swanson and Jeannie Stevenson of O'Neill, Stephanie Hultquist and husband, Mark, of Oakland, NE; step grandchildren, Ami Buckendahl, Amber Jurgensmeier, Abbi Vogt, Nolan Swanson, Jesse Walmer, Celest Spier, and families;  as well as numerous cousins, friends, and extended family.

She is preceded to death by her parents, her sister, Loraine, her husband Gene Ziska in 1989, her husband, Larry Swanson in 2009, and one step-son, Michael Swanson.
