Marilyn Kay Davis, born September 17, 1945 to Wade and Arlene Davis in Norfolk, NE. She grew up around the Chambers area where she attended three area Country Schools. As a freshman, Marilyn started at Wheeler Central High School located in Bartlett, NE, and in that era, the students lived in the dorm. Her parents spent many Wednesday nights taking popcorn and visiting to help her overcome being homesick. Marilyn eventually got acclimated and sometime during her sophomore year, the LOVE of her life, Wes Palmer, stole her heart and made her high school years lots more enjoyable!!! Marilyn graduated from Wheeler Central in May, 1963. She then traveled to Omaha to work for World Insurance and was employed there until the spring of 1968.
On August 23, 1964, Marilyn and Wes were married at the Methodist Church in Bartlett, NE. They made their home in Omaha, NE until the spring of 1968, when they returned to Chambers, NE and had their first born, Rod in September. In early 1970, they moved southeast of Chambers onto the Troxel Green place, just a couple miles east of Marilyn's parents. In December, that same year Brenda was born. Early in 1971, Marilyn, Wes and family moved to a place southeast of Inman, NE and ranched there for 20 years. In 1991, the ranch west of Chambers, NE became available and so they moved back west and have resided there ever since.
Marilyn spent most of her life as a devoted Ranch wife and Mother. She spent countless hours doing chores, feeding hogs and cattle, and helping the kids with their sheep and horses. Marilyn raked many, many miles of hay and always had meals and cookies baked for the picnic lunches on long hayfield days. Marilyn enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening and was an AMAZING cook!!! Over the years, Marilyn enjoyed helping with everything the kids were involved in. Driving the kids to meet the school bus on snowmobiles during long bouts of deep snow and no open roads was not a favorite, but she endured! She'd do anything for her kids and grandkids. They all loved baking cookies with Grandma. Marilyn was an amazing ranchhand, but her best talents were being a loving Mom and Grandmother! She loved all the time spent watching her kids and grandkids with rodeo and all events they participated in. Marilyn spent many hours rocking the grandkids and was always willing to give of her time and help with anything asked of her. She dearly loved all her time spent with family and they traveled many miles and several states to support their family's favorite sport of rodeo.
Survivors include her husband Wesley Palmer of Chambers; her son, Rod (Annette) Palmer of Norfolk; her daughter, Brenda (John) Koenig of Ewing; grandchildren, Levi (fiancé, Liberty Josoff) Koenig, Ryan (Mariah) Koenig, Kurtis (Tiffaney Connelly) Palmer, Andrew Koenig, and Kirsten Koenig; great grandson, Dustin Palmer; many dear friends, nieces, and nephews.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Larry (Linda) Davis.
Marilyn will be remembered by her BEAUTIFUL smile, elegant style and the most kind and tender loving Heart and soul.
