Funeral Services for Mary Summerer, age 90, of Atkinson will be 10:30 am Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Rural Ewing.

Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery.  Rev. Peter Sample will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday, November 16, 2018 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with a 7 pm prayer service.

Mary passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Atkinson.

Memorials may be directed to Bethany Presbyterian Church.  Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Louise Young was born on May 10, 1928 near Hornell, New York to Guy and Edith (Rouse) Young.  She moved with her family to the O'Neill, Nebraska area when she was five.  She attended country school and later graduated from O'Neill High School in 1945.  High School had been a tough time for Mary's family, as two of her brothers died during World War II.  After graduation, she taught country school for one year, then took a job as a manual telephone operator.

Mary met Carol Summerer at a Rural Youth Dance.  The couple later married on September 12, 1948 at the First Presbyterian Church in O'Neill.  They made their home on the family ranch in the Cache Creek Area.  The couple moved to O'Neill in 1985.  Mary was later diagnosed with cancer in 1986.

In 1953, Carol and Mary donated the land that the current Bethany Presbyterian Church was built on.  Both spent much time helping to build the church physically and spiritually.

Mary was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church and the Goose Lake Birthday Club.  She was known as a great cook and would can everything she could get her hands on.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing.

Mary is survived by three children, Diane (Robert) Wellsandt of Diller, NE, Larry (Lori) Summerer of Aurora, CO, Dean (Nancy) Summerer of Ewing, NE; one daughter-in-law, Linda Summerer of Bellevue, NE; six grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters-in-laws, Willo Young of Platteville, WI, Shirley Young of Topeka, KS; several nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carol Summerer in 2014; son, John Summerer in 2017; four brothers, Harold Young, Lester Young, Richard Young, Stanley Young; and one sister, Dorothy Huston.
