Philip David Langan was born on October 31, 1943 in Lynch, Nebraska to William D and Hazel L (Rouse) Langan, the thirteenth of fourteen children. His family was not aware of his hearing impairment until he was in elementary school. During his preschool days he would occasionally wander off and the whole family would need to search for him. They would normally find him asleep since he couldn't hear their calls for him. He graduated from Nebraska School for the Deaf where he enjoyed playing sports. He excelled for the school in football, basketball, and track. After graduation he returned to the family ranch and helped his dad and brothers with all chores related to a ranching operation. He enjoyed mowing with his older brother Jim during the spring and summer haying chores and kept the sickles sharpened. After his parents passed, he operated his own ranch for a number of years. Once his ranching days were over, he spent much of his time enjoying any sporting event that was available. He followed the local high school games with a special interest.

Philip is survived by his son Tony (Penny) Van Eck and his grandchildren Keaton, Kylie, and Collin; siblings Agnes Langan of Salem Oregon, Lenora Brown of Twin Falls Idaho, Mike (Veronica) Langan of O'Neill, Terry (Karen) Langan of Omaha; sister-in-law Joanne Langan of O'Neill and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Philip was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Gerald, Mary Johnson, Jim, Martin, Hugh, Margaret Rossmeier, Jack, Elizabeth Joan Hafsaas, and Tom.
