Reginald Burdette Pinkerman was born on July 19, 1932 near Lynch, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm and graduated from Lynch High School in 1950. He married Janet Christensen on May 14, 1954 shortly before moving to Alaska to serve in the U.S. Army. Their first son, Wes, was born in Anchorage. After his service time, they moved to Omaha for a short time, and then to O'Neill. They started a business, Pinkerman TV, and operated it until retiring in 1991. During their time in O'Neill, two more sons were born, Marty and Jeff. Building the business took a tremendous investment of time, and Reg worked long hours, serving customers from the surrounding area.
Reg loved baseball nearly as much as he loved his family. He played during his teen years and later with the O'Neill Rockets. But the mark he left on the baseball program was not as a player, but as a coach. He coached youth teams for all three of his sons spanning 17 years, and later returned to help several additional teams simply because he loved the game, and the life lessons that could be learned in the process.
Reg did some boxing in his Army years, and taught his sons that sport as well. The family regularly attended the Midwest Golden Gloves event in Omaha as they were growing up.
Over the years, Reg and Janet took up golf, and were members of the O'Neill Country Club for over 30 years. This led to some golf trips to Arizona later on, which led to the decision to purchase a home there after retirement. They spent winters there for 20 years, and made many new friends.
Reg was a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1967, and served in various capacities including as an Elder and Deacon. He was also a member of the Lion's Club for many years.
Reg is survived by three sons, Wes Pinkerman and wife, Claudia, of Wayne, Marty Pinkerman and wife, Angie, of Hastings; and Jeff Pinkerman and wife, Brenda, of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren, Brandy Janke, Lindsey (Dave) Buchheit, Ross Pinkerman, Seth (Karissa) Pinkerman, Chad Pinkerman, Tyler Pinkerman, and Ben Pinkerman; six great grandchildren Hailey and Sydney Janke, Parker and Kendall Buchheit, Madelyn and Camille Pinkerman; sister, Veldeen (Bob) Morrow of O'Neill; and several nieces and nephews.
Reg was preceded in death by his parents, Veldon and Mary Jean Pinkerman; his wife, Janet in 2016
