Ronald John Boettcher was born on August 26, 1944, in Stuart, NE to William "Bill" and Hazel (Richardson) Boettcher. He was the eldest of three children and grew up on a farm near Fairfax, SD, where he attended grade school. He went to high school in Spencer, NE, and graduated in 1962.
Ron continued his education at Chadron State College, studying drafting. In July 1966, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth "Betty" Warnke, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Butte, NE. Shortly thereafter, in October 1966, Ron was drafted into the United States Army. He completed basic training at Fort Hood, TX, and attained the rank of Specialist E5. During his service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle), and Good Conduct Medal before being honorably discharged in October 1968.
In 1969, Ron and Betty made their home in O'Neill. Over the years, he worked at Quality Farm Center, O'Neill Auto Supply, and Carhart Lumber Company. Ron was known for his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and remarkable ability to fix nearly anything. A true handyman, he rarely encountered a mechanical issue he couldn't repair and always found a solution to whatever problem came his way.
Ron had an easy way about him and made friends wherever he went. He was quick with a joke and known for his sharp wit and playful sense of humor. He always had a funny saying to lighten any situation.
Dad was an avid outdoorsman. Some of his happiest moments with his wife and family were spent camping, fishing, and hunting. Time spent with Grandpa often meant the biggest deer or the best catch.
Above all, Ron's greatest joy in life was being a dad and grandpa. In retirement, he and Betty traveled countless miles across the state to support their grandchildren at sporting events and school activities. No distance was ever too far.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Betty; their children and spouses, Jeff (Jennifer) Boettcher of Lincoln, Brent (Janet) Boettcher of Ord, Kimberly (Chad) Stengel of Wellfleet, and Deann (Tony) Venditte of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren, Maxwell Boettcher, Jackson (Madeleine) Boettcher, Carson Boettcher, Barrett Boettcher, Samuel Boettcher, Jed Boettcher, Ellie Boettcher, Reagan Stengel, Karissa Stengel, Paytyn Stengel, Edisyn Venditte, and Anthony Venditte; and one great-grandson, Jax McCabe; his brother, Lawrence (Judith) Boettcher; his sister, Lynette Carlson; stepsister, Linda Vomacka; brothers-in-law Dick (Susie) Warnke, Doug Sutton, and Leonard Efta; sisters-in-law, Regina (Dennis) Schmitz, and Deniece Warnke; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Lucille; his parents-in-law, Max and Rosalie Warnke; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Ron will be remembered for his kindness, humor, ingenuity, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the memories he created with those he loved.
