Memorial Services for Verna Johnson, age 90, of O'Neill will be at 10:30 am Monday, October 8, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church in O'Neill. Inurnment will be in the Grimton Cemetery in rural O'Neill at a later date.  Rev. John Nelson will officiate.  Memorial Visitation will be from 4-6 pm Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with a 5:00 pm prayer service.  Verna passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at O'Neill Care and Rehabilitation Center.  Memorials may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church or Grimton Cemetery. Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill is in charge of arrangements.

Verna was born on April 4, 1928 in Star, Nebraska to Ewalt and Myrtle (Boelter) Miller.  She was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Walnut, Nebraska on August 12, 1928.  She attended grade school at School District 56 and graduated from O'Neill High School in 1945.  Following graduation, she moved to Hastings, Nebraska with her sister Neva to work at Naval Ammunition Depot. When she returned to O'Neill, she taught at School District 49 for two years.

She married Lysle Johnson on August 6, 1950 at Christ Lutheran Church in O'Neill.  To this union two children were born.  They made their home on a farm in northeast Holt County until retiring and moving to O'Neill.

Verna's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to her, and she loved being able to spend time with them. Verna stayed busy being a member of the Stitch and Chatter and Scrabble Club.  She enjoyed flowers, gardening, painting and was known to be very artistic. She was a long-time member of Christ Lutheran Church in O'Neill.

Verna is survived by her sons; Wyn Johnson and wife Teresa and Larry Johnson and wife Coni all of O'Neill, NE;  eight grandchildren, Ryan Johnson and wife Kelly of O'Neill, Tracey Johnson of Lincoln, NE, Kyle Johnson and wife Allison of Seward, NE, Rachel Hilger and husband Tyler of O'Neill, Jean Kurtz and husband Adam of O'Neill, Joan Day and husband Joshua of Monument, CO, Cari Ihde and husband Zechariah of Lincoln, NE, Jordyn Johnson of Lincoln, NE; great grandchildren, Paisley, Jaiya, Charlotte, Addysen, Zooey, Margaret, Bruce, Bentley, Kaidence, Talon, Remi, Henley, Everett; one sister, Neva Cunningham and husband Vince of Eerie, PA; sisters-in-law, Ardy Miller of Verdigre, NE, Lavon Johnson of Plainview, NE; nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Ewalt and Myrtle (Boelter) Miller; husband, Lysle; granddaughter, Lisa Bryant; brother, Arnold Miller; sister, Barbara Fults and husband Larry.
